Oscars best dressed

Well, the Oscars were predictable this year! And good job too, I certainly didn't want to see Avatar win against The Hurt Locker, or Christoph Waltz and Jeff Bridges lose out. Sandra Bullock was an obvious choice too - the storyline of The Blind Side is perfect Oscars fodder - and she was gracious enough to accept her Golden Razzie on Saturday night for All About Steve.

But enough about the awards, we all know it's really about the fashion. There was lots of sparkle and no real clangers this year. Sandra Bullock played it safe but classy in Marchesa, while Carey Mulligan looked cute in a sparkly number (not sure about the hemline and hate the shoes, though).

Kristin Stewart scrubbed up nicely in a stunning dress and up do (she gets slated a lot for looking surly but, frankly, standing having your photo taken by burly paps is hardly a laugh a minute is it?). As a friend said, "made of win".

Charlize Theron attended in a pretty dress but what is going on with the top?

Mariah Carey seems to have forgotten half her dress (I'm not a prude but seriously, buy the right size!).

And Zoe Saldana's dress looked a bit like a novelty loo roll holder, totally mismatched with the top half. One of my least favourite dresses of the evening, but not the worst. No, that honour goes to Jennifer Lopez, who looked like she was dressed in bubblewrap. Not a good look.

Five in good telly shock

Is anyone else watching Stylista on Five? I know it's trashy but I can't help it, there's something about bitchy New York wannabe fashion icons that I just can't resist (even if New York magazine is horrified). Ashlie to win! (she's already writing the official series blog so I think she's got the inside track)

I'm also secretly enjoying Step It Up and Dance too - more bitchy Americans, this time with dancing! Elizabeth Berkley is completely superfluous of course, but otherwise loving it.

Golden Globes - it's all about the frocks

Poor Anne Hathaway, losing out to Kate Winslet at the Golden Globes after a computer error had named her best actress the day before. Just to rub it in, Kate won for best supporting actress too, for her part in The Reader. And Kate definitely won in the style stakes - Anne looks like she's disappearing before our eyes with that severe hairstyle and tight bodice.

Best dressed: Drew Barrymore looked amazing, and Vanessa Hudgens looked great in a vintage-style frock that was a world away from her High School Musical gear.

Highly commended: Melissa George stood out in a sea of glitter and oversized dresses, and Rumor Willis proved she scrubs up well (how hard must it be when your Mum is still a red carpet regular?).

Best dressed man: No one else could pull off such a bizarre look, but Mickey Rourke looked fab compared to the bland black suit/tie combos of all the other men.

Worst dressed: Renee Zellweger seems to have forgotten her top half, Heidi Klum should stop dressing like a twelve-year-old and Penelope Cruz had a rare off-day.
